"False Friends" In German

A 'false friend' or false cognate is a word in one language which looks like a word in another language, but turns out to have a different meaning. For example, if an impatient German diner in an English restaurant complains to his passing waiter "When will I become my chicken" he has fallen victim to the English false friend "become" by assuming it means the same as the German "bekommen", meaning "to receive".
