Remember that entrance into the Hall of Fame is by a vote. If he does not get in on the first year's ballot perhaps that is just punishment. I think American sports fans pay too much attention to records.

Yeah, maybe you're right. That would be a slap in the face to a virtually automatic 1st ballot Hall of Famer.
I don't know about the records though. I would miss the important stuff like knowing that Brett Favre just set the record for most TD passes on Dec 12th, in the snow, the day of a full moon, when he had a bagel for breakfast, and drove himself to the stadium.
