Deserted island - books
If you were stranded on a deserted island, which three books would you like to have with you? Why?
Remember, those could be the only books you read for the rest of your life
Anyone?

Very nice thread, esprit Let me think a little...
1) I'll need a funny book to make me laugh from time to time, so Terry Pratchet's "The Fifth Elephant" might come in handy
2) I'll need a serious one, a book that makes me think every time I'm reading it. I believe Leo Tolstoy's War and Peace would be just perfect for that. (and it's really heavy- I would be able to use it to defend myself )
3) And I'll also need a book that I'd never be able to read, no matter how hard I try. So I'll take The Iliad too.

I'll go with those three:
1) The Lord of the Rings
2) The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
3) Windows 98 for Dummies (there are some really good jokes in it )

desert island books
Since you said "books", I'm taking the liberty of asking for a couple all-in-one-volume works:
1. Proust's "Remembrance of Things Past"
2. Complete works of Shakespeare
3. one-volume Columbia Encyclopedia

Zion:
The Robert Fagles translation of "The Iliad" (and also of "The Odyssey") is actually quite readable -- give it a try!

The Illiad
Thanks, shasha, I might try it. However, after watching Troy, the story line wouldn't be very interesting to me, would it.

Let's have a look at my bookshelves:
1)Frank Hurbert's Dune
2)Stephen King's The Stand
3)Lord of the Flies by William Golding

Would you lend me Dune for a week, after you finish reading it, fellow islander? I love that book!

I agree with your second choice my other two books that I will need is harry potter and the half blood prince because you know how wide it is and it has at least 5-6 hundred pages.
My second book might be The giver because it is just so interesting. If you ever see any of my posts they are most likely be at the forum called sports talk so if you want to reply to any of my posts or send me a message.
