Chihuahuas are the smallest breed of dog in the world. Their average weight is a mere 2-4 lbs and 6-9 in. tall. The most valued dogs weigh under 2-1/4 pounds (1.3 kg). Some can even stand on all four paws in a person's palm! They were named after a Mexican state and do not resemble their ancestors, the wolf, at all. Chihuahuas were brought to Europe at the end of the nineteenth century. The first Chihuahua to be registered in the USA was named Midget in 1904.
