An unusual phenomenon occurred on February 18, 1979 in southern Algeria -- for the first time in recorded weather history, snow fell in the Sahara desert. The storm lasted only about half an hour and the snow melted very quickly after that. Consider the fact that there is a town in the Sahara Desert named Tidikelt, where not a single drop of rain came down for ten years.
