136 German Generals lost their lives during WWII -- that averages to about one dead General almost every two weeks of the war. 84 of these Generals were actually executed by Hitler.
Lt. Gen. Lesley McNair was the highest-ranking American killed during the war, killed at Normandy by friendly fire on the 25th of July 1944. Another interesting fact is that the first German serviceman killed in the war was killed by the Japanese (their allies), in China in 1937.
