You spend around a third of your life sleeping. Over an average lifespan, a person will have up to 100,000 dreams with about 4 to 7 dreams every night. During REM, your skeletal muscles get paralyzed, so you do not act out your dreams. While adults spend 20% of the night dreaming, infants and small children dream half the time they are asleep. Children do not usually appear in their own dreams until age 3-4.
