70s and 80s Music Mania

written by: skyblu1

You are invited to 2 House Parties in one night! One is a 70's - themed music party, the other an 80's - themed music party! Right next door to each other. Ready? Let the games begin!

Question 1:

You pull up to the 70's house first. You can hear the opening strains of a sort of familiar tune come wafting through the open windows. The verse starts out: "Is this the real life, is this just fantasy?" What song are you listening to?  (place mouse pointer over ? icon to view hints or answer requirements)

Question 2:

Not being a huge fan of Queen's music, you and your friends decide to head over to the 80's Theme Party next door. At this party, all the guests receive invitations instructing them to dress like certain rock groups. Your group's particular invitation says to show up with upswept bizarre hairdos, as if a stylist has done your hair. What 80's Rock band are you most likely being asked to dress up as?  (place mouse pointer over ? icon to view hints or answer requirements)
Wang Chung
Mister, Mister
Men at Work
A Flock of Seagulls

Question 3:

This party seems to be heating up! As you move through the crowds into the packed living room, you see people dancing to a familair catchy tune,Mickey. This sure takes you back to the early 80's, but what is the name of the artist who scored this One Hit wonder? Is it:  (place mouse pointer over ? icon to view hints or answer requirements)
Cindy Lauper
Staci Q.
Toni Basil
Debbie Boone

Question 4:

You step out on the back veranda to grab some fresh air, and decide to head back to that 70's house! People aren't dancing here, but they're watching old reruns of that quintessential 70's show, "Welcome Back, Kotter!" What actor from this show later went on to star in several musicals, and eventually carve out an extremely successful film career, even to this day?  (place mouse pointer over ? icon to view hints or answer requirements)

Question 5:

Well, after about 3 or 4 episodes of Kotter, you and your friends decide to check out what else is going on in the house. You head downstairs to the 'rec room', (isn't that what we called them in the 70's?) Folks are cutting rugs into the Shag carpeting, doing a dance step that was all the rage in the Mid 70's! What dance is everyone most likely doing?
The Boogaloo
The Hustle
The Electric Slide
The Macarena

Question 6:

Your cellphone starts ringing (well, actually playing your favorite 70's tune). It's one of your friends next door at the 80's house. They want you to come over right away! When you get there, they're in a quandary. See, they have to name that tune from one-hit-wonder artist, Staci Q. It was popular around 1986. Which one was it?
Metro
We Got the Beat
She's Got Betty Davis Eyes
Two of Hearts

Question 7:

Just like the 70's house, at this house, they're watching old 80's tapes. This one is just beginning, as you catch the strains of the Go Gos "We got the Beat." What movie are you getting ready to watch?  (place mouse pointer over ? icon to view hints or answer requirements)
Fast Times at Ridgemont High
Cocktail
Desperately Seeking Susan
Ferris Buehler's Day Off

Question 8:

You start drifting off right around the time of the Famous football game scene from the tape. Your friend nudges you awake and suggest you all return to the 70's house. Things have mellowed quite a bit when you get there. Someone has actually pulled out an old Avocado Green fondue Pot, and this really takes you back! What also takes you back is the song on the CD player. It's something like,"Alone Again, Naturally," but who's the artist?

Question 9:

An argument ensues amidst the Fondue, about when the 'Old School' rap group "Sugar Hill Gang" released their hit 'Rappers' Delight.' You seem to vaguely recall that it was released sometime in the 70's, but your friend is insistent on the fact that it was released in the early 80's! After some debate, you both agree that it was probably released in the early 80's,since that's when it was receiving a lot of airplay. Is this True or False?
False
True

Question 10:

You see the crowd's really thinning at "Place du la 70's", so you thank your hosts and head on back over to the House of 80's for one last look! When you trek back in, you see things are winding down here as well. But wait, someone's stuck yet another tape in the VCR (it IS an 80's party, after all! Only, not Beta!) Holy smokes! It's a 90's tape of P.T. Anderson's 70's Era film 'Boogie Nights!' You and your friends are too tired to stay and watch this masterpiece, but on the drive home, you seem to recall that it did have a couple of 80's groups and their songs on it! What were two of the more memorable Artists/ Tunes in this film?
"Sister Christian" by Nightranger and "Jesses' Girl" by Rick Springfield
"Somebody's Watching Me" by Falco and "Shout" by Aha!
"Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats and "Everybody Wang Chung Tonight" by Wang Chung
"Jesses Girl" by Rick Springfield and "The Breakup Song (They Don't Write 'Em)" by The Greg Kihn Band
